Frequently Asked Questions About Cool Lipo
What is Cool Lipo?
Cool Lipo is a laser-based, minimally invasive procedure Dr. Prasad uses to aid in the removal of unwanted fat during a standard liposuction procedure. Most importantly, Cool Lipo provides skin tightening. It can be used to treat areas of lax skin that until this time were difficult to treat or provided poor results post treatment with conventional liposuction.
How Does Cool Lipo Work?
Dr. Prasad, using a laser fiber held by a hand piece, directs the energy under the skin to the desired area. The laser energy destroys unwanted fat cells allowing for gentle removal. Dr. Prasad uses additional laser settings to target the laser energy to the dermal layer under your skin, causing the collagen in the sub-surface layer to shrink. It also stimulates new collagen production, providing an improvement in skin tightening over the next several months after the procedure.
Does the Cool Lipo Procedure Require General Anesthesia?
No, one of the major benefits of Cool Lipo is that Dr. Prasad can perform the procedure under local anesthesia with light sedation, as needed.
Does the Cool Lipo Procedure Hurt?
In the vast majority of instances, there is either no or minimal pain with Cool Lipo. Dr. Prasad will use a numbing solution (tumescent anesthesia), which is injected under your skin to eliminate any sensation of pain. This anesthetic solution is given with a long but small needle through a site in the skin that has been previously numbed with a tiny amount of anesthetic solution. You might feel a sensation of pressure during the procedure as the laser fiber is advanced or retracted.
How Long Does the Cool Lipo Procedure Take?
Cool Lipo procedure times vary in length depending on the size of the area being treated and the volume of fat that is removed. Typically, treatment times last from one to three hours.
What is the Recovery Time with Cool Lipo?
Each patient's liposuction procedure and individual healing abilities are factors in the time frame for recovery. Usually you can return to work the next day if you so desire. The treated area is normally wrapped with a compression dressing, which should be worn for a few days or as Dr. Prasad recommends. You might choose to have the Cool Lipo procedure done on a Friday so that by Monday you can remove the compression dressing before returning to work.
What are the Results of Cool Lipo and How Soon Can I See Them?
Cool Lipo results in a thinner, tighter, more youthful appearance of the treated area. Most patients see an immediate improvement after their procedures. Improvement in skin tightening can continue for up to six months. Dr. Prasad will discuss and review what you should expect from your Cool Lipo results based on your individual situation.
Will There be Any Swelling or Bruising?
This depends on your response to the procedure and the area treated. Normally if there is any swelling it will subside in a day or so. Bruising is usually minimal.
Can I See the Results of Previous Cool Lipo Procedures?
Yes, Dr. Prasad has many Cool Lipo before and after photos.
Can Larger Body Areas be Treated with Cool Lipo?
Cool Lipo is ideal for small, fatty trouble areas like the neck, chin and arms. As of now, in larger areas like the stomach and thighs, the Cool Lipo procedure is used to enhance the results of standard liposuction.
What is the Difference Between Cool Lipo and Similar Laser-Assisted Lipolysis Procedures?
Cool Lipo has a unique 1320 nm wavelength that not only gives fat lipolysis, but also provides tightening and lifting benefits.
Is Cool Lipo Approved by the FDA?
Yes, Cool Lipo received FDA clearance for laser-assisted lipolysis in January 2008.
